Calvin College
presents Sellout, an exhibit that examines an artist’s response
to the commercialization of people, places, and things. As a result
of this examination, the exhibition challenges traditional notions
of how art should be created, marketed, and sold.
For the first time ever, this exhibit brings together the work of
nine Calvin Art Alumni from the last five years. Each artist was
asked to respond to the concept of marketing within the art world,
and to examine the role that consumerism plays in their artwork.
Born of these questions that define the retail art world, Sellout
combines installation, sculpture, and 2-dimensional artwork that
explores the place and responsibility of an artist within our society.
The artists included in this exhibit are: Christopher Filippini
‘02, Josh Ippel ‘01, Ryan Thompson ’03, Kate Bonner
‘02, Meagan Luhrs ‘03, Brian DeYong ’00, Matt
Poole ‘01, Phil Orr ’01, and David Prinsen ‘99.
